Strictly Come Dancing fans were left fuming at Sunday’s results show, as McFly frontman Tom Fletcher was voted out of the competition along with his professional partner Amy Dowden.
Some fans have even been slamming the show as a “fix”, as they claim favour is going to Dan Walker as he is a BBC employee, appearing on BBC Breakfast – despite continuously receiving low scores from the judges.
Tom faced the dance-off along with CBBC presenter Rhys Stephenson, while celebrities including Tilly Ramsay, Dan Walker, AJ Odudu, John Whaite and Rose Ayling-Ellis flew through to the next round.
It was Tom’s first time in the dance-off after nine weeks in the competition – and his exit will likely strike a tougher blow as his bandmate Harry Judd won Strictly back in 2011.
But furious fans turned to Twitter to slam the results, with one writing: “If Dan doesn’t go, it’s a fix!”
Someone else grumbled: “It’s an actual joke that Dan who wasn’t that good gets through and Tom and Amy’s dance which was amazing and so beautiful. It made people cry and yet he is in the bottom two and gets sent home. #Strictly is a fix and a joke!”
As another chimed in to say about Dan: “I’ve not seen one person say they’ve voted for him, this is such a fix!”
However, others were glad to see Dan dancing another week, as one posted: “Oh yes Dan! Am all for a journey on #Strictly and watching Dan grow in confidence each week is a total joy. You can even see it in the weekly videos he does! Honestly inspiring to watch, so happy!”
Another agreed: “I actually enjoyed Dan’s dance more than Tilly’s!”
The final six celebrities left in the contest are all BBC stars, with actress Rose a regular on BBC soap EastEnders, Dan Walker known to millions as a presenter on BBC Breakfast and Rhys starring on CBBC and Blue Peter.
Tilly Ramsay, meanwhile, had her own CBBC cooking show called Matilda and the Ramsay Bunch, and has appeared Blue Peter and Master Chef Junior.
Chef John Whaite enjoyed overnight success after he was crowned the 2012 winner of Bake Off when it was on BBC Two – and AJ Odudu started her career on BBC Blast and has been on popular BBC shows such as The Wheel and Would I Lie To You.
Of course, several BBC stars have already been voted out of the competition, including week one casualty Nina Wadia, star of EastEnders, and Sara Davies, one of the dragons on popular business show Dragons’ Den.
A source told Daily Star: “Everyone knows the two couples in the dance-off are obviously decided by a combination of public vote and judges scores.”
Dan himself has hit out at people wondering how he has remained in the competition, writing on Instagram in response to the question: “I’m not sure but we are incredibly thankful for all the support and it’s a true privilege to be a small part of the biggest show on the telly.
“I know articles like this are sourced from a few comments on social media but each week I get thousands of messages from people who love the show and are really enjoying watching @nadiyabychkova teaching me to dance.
“When I’ve watched Strictly in the past I have always liked seeing great dancers but also those who learn to love it and are working hard to improve every week. It’s a TV show and not the world championships.
“I never thought I would be able to do some of the things Nadiya has taught me. She has given me a confidence that I thought was way beyond me. I just want to learn as many dances as possible.
“Anyway… on with the American Smooth. Whoever you vote for this weekend… I hope you enjoy the show. I will continue to do it with a massive smile on my face.”
