I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! could be in danger amid reports that ‘killer pumas’ have been spotted roaming around near the castle.
The nerve-wracking ITV show has just returned to our screens, and the latest batch of stars have set up camp at Gwrych Castle in North Wales – including ex-footballer David Ginola and BBC Breakfast legend Louise Minchin.
However, the 10 celebrities could soon find themselves up against some unexpected guests, as there have been a number of reports of “large black cats” near the 19th-century castle – over the last 12 months.
There have even been paw prints discovered in the castle grounds which have been dismissed as being from a dog due to the fact that there are no claw marks, The Sun reported.
The prints were found seven months ago, and they could be from a puma as pumas are known to retract their claws whilst running.
The prints follow multiple sightings of a big cat in the Welsh area, including one that was allegedly three times the size of a labrador.
Toby Matthews, a local witness, claimed he was left “terrified” after seeing one of the big cats up close in a wooded area back in November 2020.
Recalling the alleged meeting with the feline, he said: “Maybe 50 or 60 feet away was an enormous black cat looking right at me.
“I took a photo then turned around and quickly walked back. I wanted to start running but was worried it’d give chase.
“I’m convinced that it was a puma. It was about two or three times the size of my little Labrador.”
It’s the second time the show has ditched the Australian jungle for the medieval-style set near Abergele in Wales, and it has returned there due to Covid travel restrictions.
In January this year, reports surfaced of a “large cat roughly the size of a Labrador” walking along a road in Flintshire, North Wales.
Another sighting came 20 miles away from the castle in a place called Pontybodkin, with local witnesses describing a black “dog-sized” cat.
A group called Puma Watch North Wales has apparently been set up to assess the situation with several sheep killings being investigated.
Speaking about the paw print photos in March, a Gwrych Castle spokesman said: “We’ve seen reports of a puma roaming the surrounding woods of Gwrych Castle.
“This paw print was spotted in our woods last week. But what do you think, puma or dog paw print?”
