BBC Strictly's It Takes Two in chaos as Rylan pelted with Brussels sprouts

Strictly Come Dancing spin-off It Takes Two collapsed into chaos on Tuesday evening, as host Rylan Clark was pelted with Brussels sprouts on the BBC show.

The host had just been chatting to Karen Hauer to dissect the week’s choreography when he turned to sit down to announce the third celebrity taking part in this year’s Christmas special.

The celeb will be joining First Dates star Fred Sirieix and Repair Shop master Jay Blades in the star-studded line-up.

And now Mel Giedroyc of duo Mel and Sue will be joining them as the first female celebrity announced for the 2021 Christmas show.

It comes after the 2020 show was cancelled due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.

But as Rylan settled into his chair, a handful of the green vegetables launched at him out of mid-air, leaving him screaming and ducking for cover.

When the assault finally stopped, Rylan yelled: “What-? Oh oh oh! Is that a Brussels sprout?!”

He made a sudden realisation then, adding: “Oh, well it can only mean one thing, can’t it?” He made to toss the sprouts back in the direction of the crew-member who had pelted him with them to urge him on with the segment, cheekily saying: “Get out, Adam!”

Recovering himself, Rylan explained: “It is time to reveal another celebrity taking part in this year’s Strictly Christmas special.”

Retrieving a pair of felt reindeer antlers, he put them on his head and said: “So, I’ve got my little antlers, darling, to get in the mood!”

Appearing on the show with her professional dance partner Neil Jones, Mel couldn’t contain her excitement as she strutted to sit across from Rylan.

She said: “Listen, love Christmas. Love Strictly. The two things combined, and having Neil there by my side.”

Neil said of the partnership: “It’s the greatest thing, and I never realised how good it is to dance with somebody who is obsessed, literally… she knows more about the show than I do.”

But Mel explained that her knowledge of the show might not translate into skills on the dance floor, quipping: “You’re going to have your work cut out.”

Neil, thankfully, was there to boost her confidence, explaining that Mel had already been learning the ropes during training – in between her napping sessions.

“I’d say if you’re doing more than six hours of work, you’ve got to have a little disco nap in there!” Mel explained.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 6:45pm on BBC One
