Bradley Cooper held at knifepoint in 'crazy' Subway attack on way to pick up daughter

Bradley Cooper has revealed on a podcast this week that he was held at knifepoint on a New York City subway in 2019, telling listeners “it was crazy”.

The Oscar-nominated actor opened up about the terrifying ordeal on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, revealing that in October 2019, he was on the New York City subway and “got held up at knifepoint” while on his way to pick up his daughter from school.

“It was pretty insane,” he said. “I realised I had gotten way, way too comfortable in this city. My guard was down.”

The Hollywood star recalled listening to music with his headphones on and seeing someone walk up to him on the subway.

He explained that he initially assumed they wanted to take a photo, only to look down and “see a knife”.

He said: “I used to walk around New York City all the time with headphones on. I was on the Subway to pick Lea up downtown at Russian school and I got held up at knifepoint.”

The dad-of-one, who shares his daughter with former partner Irina Shayk, said that he was soon “up against the post like it’s the French Connection or some s**t”.

The actor said he was ultimately able to run away through a station entrance.

“I just started booking, just started running. I jumped over the turnstile, hid around the white, tiled entrance to the subway and took my phone out,” Cooper recalled.

He said he then snapped photos of the suspect and tracked down a pair of nearby police officers to report the incident.

“It was pretty insane,” Cooper said.

According to Cooper, the weapon was about “two-and-a-half, three inches” long with a wooden handle.

The 46-year-old actor said he also remembered thinking that it was a “nice knife” and was taken by how young the person’s eyes looked.

Though Cooper wasn’t injured during the incident, the police were concerned that he might have been stabbed but didn’t know it

“I’m like talking to them, and the guy kept saying—it was so interesting—he’s like, ‘Are you stabbed?’ I was like, ‘No, no,'” he remembered.

“He was like, ‘Check to see if you’re stabbed.’ What happens is people get stabbed and they’re in shock.”

Cooper didn’t say what happened to the assailant, though he noted that he “got back on the subway and picked up my daughter” after going to the police.

“It was crazy,” he said.

Cooper shares Lea with ex-girlfriend Irina Shayk.

The co-parents sparked reconciliation rumours earlier in November after they were spotted walking arm-in-arm in the West Village neighbourhood of New York City.
