I’m A Celeb host Declan Donnelly was forced to step in to help his contestant Arlene Phillips during the Bed Chamber of Chills trial.
The Geordie host was left worried as 78-year-old Arlene kept forgetting to count her stars during the grueling task, which saw her and Paralympian Kadeena Cox locked in a dark box filled with snakes.
The show returned for the first time on Tuesday night (November 30) after a series of days off amid the storm, and the trial took place before the show’s Gwyrch Castle set in North Wales was left “badly damaged” by Storm Arwen.
Kadeena was put on the top bunk and Arlene on the bottom during the latest attempt to win meals for camp.
Explaining the trial, Ant said: “Behind that door is the Bed Chamber of Chills. The bed chamber contains a bunk bed.
“One of you must take the top bunk, the other one the bottom bunk. On the roof of the top bunk are 11 stars.
“The celebrity in the top bunk must manoeuvre the stars around the maze to release them. They can then be dropped through a hole to the person in the bottom bunk.
“The celebrity on the bottom bunk will then need to find the star and place it in the collection rack.”
However, the trial took a chaotic turn as both stars struggled in the darkness, with the pair shouting out and failing to communicate with each other as they tried their best to nab the stars for camp.
Arlene couldn’t keep the stars in the racks after one filled up, and she kept accidentally knocking the other stars out.
At first, the presenters were laughing at the campmates, but things took a turn when the stars got increasingly worried and confused in the beds.
Later on, Dec noticed that Arlene was losing count of how many stars she had, and he told her to “count how many stars you’ve got”, but she kept losing track of them.
The presenter looked worried as she kept forgetting to count her stars, and he ended up having to repeatedly tell her to count them.
The duo ended up winning an impressive 10 out of 11 stars, but Kadeena burst into tears after the stressful challenge.
Kadeena cried at the end. Arlene said: “I was so determined we were going to do it.”
The athlete said: “Once I found my route and found where I was going. I could feel stuff moving around… I’m not sure I was that calm.”
