Gary Barlow took a savage swipe at Boyzone star Ronan Keating after he didn’t pick him for his Christmas album, The Dream of Christmas.
The Take That legend appeared on Friday’s One Show (December 3) to discuss his exciting new festive album, and he’s worked with musical icons like Aled Jones and Sheridan Smith on the project.
However, it wasn’t long before things took an awkward turn in the BBC studio, which has just had a festive makeover with Christmas trees and lights.
That’s because it appears that Gary left out One Show presenter Ronan, who is famed for singing in Irish boyband, Boyzone.
Ronan seemed to be gutted that he never got the big call up from the former X Factor judge, and he decided to confront him on the issue in front of the BBC cameras, albeit in a joking manner.
Asking him about the record, Ronan said: “You’ve been collaborating with some amazing artists.”
Taking a dig at Gary, he coughed as he quickly added: “I didn’t get the call…”
Gary fired back: “Again…” which left the studio, including Ronan and his co-star Alex Scott, in stitches.
Ronan covered his mouth with his finger as Gary quipped: “That old cell number, it’s just not working…”
Ronan added: “Eventually I’ll get the call!”
Speaking about why he decided to do a Christmas album Gary said: “It felt like time for me, and also, I don’t know how you felt last Christmas but I felt a bit robbed at Christmas.
“It didn’t feel like we wanted it to, so I was unconsciously nipping off to the studio every other day and starting a Christmas album so that kind of elongated Christmas for me.”
He added: “And I was really enjoying writing these Christmas song, putting sleigh bells and choirs on, and I’ve got four original songs on this album, the rest are all classics, so it’s been a real delve into music.”
Gary has released his sixth solo album, The Dream of Christmas, under Polydor records.
