After a tense quarter final showdown, BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker left the Strictly ballroom on Sunday night.
However, some viewers cried foul on Twitter, believing that Dan’s dance-off rival AJ Odudu ‘cheated.’ Yet other fans weren’t convinced.
AJ’s sassy salsa had wowed the crowd on Saturday night before going horribly wrong at the end with a fumbled lift. Head judge Shirley Ballas sympathised, telling a gutted AJ: “It was on its way to a ten, you are fantastic. It’s just unfortunate”.
With Dan and AJ both finding themselves in the dreaded dance-off there was everything to fight for. Dan and his professional dance partner Nadiya Bychkova performed their tango again while AJ and her professional dance partner Kai Widdrington pulled off their salsa without a hitch.
All four judges chose to save AJ and Kai, meaning Dan’s 11-week Strictly journey had ended.
However, some viewers were convinced that AJ and Kai made a subtle change in the routine – set to Gloria Estefan’s Rhythm Is Gonna Get You – to secure their place in the semi finals.
In Saturday’s dance, Kai picked up AJ and she cartwheeled in the lift before he put her down and then AJ put her leg up to Kai. They then attempted another lift, which turned into a ‘dance disaster’ in the words of Craig Revel Horwood.
On Sunday’s dance off, Kai picked up AJ for the cartwheel lift but then AJ danced away and they finished by the stairs.
“Did AJ & Kai change the last lift?? It looked different from last night” tweeted one viewer.
Another fumed: “#StrictlyComeDancing on that dance off Dan was much better it wasn’t fair that AJ changed the final lift!”
A third viewer wrote: “Did anyone else notice that AJ and Kai did a different final lift? She didn’t go over his head like she did when they flubbed it!”
However, not everyone was convinced that there was a big conspiracy.
One fan wrote:” For everyone saying that Aj and Kai changed the lift. It is the same lift but he didn’t take her hand so she had to put her leg on his shoulder and they had to move on!
“Have a nice sleep when Aj and Kai are in semifinals!”
A second fan agreed, saying: “I am so glad AJ and Kai had a chance to clean up her dance and sort out the last lift mistake as the second dance was absolutely amazing.”
