Dan Walker has confirmed he won’t be watching the semi-finals of Strictly Come Dancing after being axed from the show last week.
BBC Breakfast presenter Dan and his professional dance partner Nadiya Bychkova made it through to the quarter-finals but failed to make enough of an impression on the judges to save them in a dance-off against AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington.
But Dan still turned up on social media to wish his former Strictly co-stars the best of luck, as he uploaded a clip of his favourite moments of the series with Nadiya.
In his emotional message, Dan penned: “All the best to the Rose & Gio, John & Johannes, Rhys & Nancy and AJ & Kai in the #Strictly semis tonight – they’ll all be brilliant.
“For me, it’s a Saturday with no dancing for the 1st time in 3 months!
“It would have been wonderful to be there but there are so many lovely memories of dancing with @nadiyabychkova.”
Dan definitely has a good reason for missing the semis, though, as his two daughters are performing in a musical production of Matilda.
He explained: “I’m going to watch our 2 girls perform in Matilda the musical and I can’t wait. Have a lovely weekend.”
And his co-stars were quick to comment, with professional dancer Nancy Xu writing: “Thank you Dan!”
Johannes Radebe penned: “Thank you papiiiiii”, as Giovanni Pernice added a row of red love heart emojis.
Other fans couldn’t help showing Dan their love too, as one posted: “We all fell in love with you both, watching you fall in love with dance and you both fall in love with life. Not a bad thing you’ve done Dan the Man!”
“Dan, loved watching you embrace and enjoy the strictly experience, you were truly amazing but just wanted to endorse Nadiya’s comment that you really do make people around you want to be a better person.
“If the world had more people like you it would be a happier, kinder place. Keep being you! Now enjoy your family and the show this evening,” someone else added.
A third fan echoed: “Great reel, we’ll miss you but how fabulous that your two girls are in Matilda!!!! Proud parents tonight I’m sure.”
And it looks like Dan isn’t quite ready to say goodbye to his Strictly journey quite yet, as he later posted a picture of the lace-up red shoes he wore for his lobster dance with Nadiya.
He explained on Instagram: “Tidying up and just found these… lobster shoes!”
Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight from 7.05pm on BBC One.
