Coronation Street icon Sherrie Hewson is haunted by the time she was sick all over movie star Steve McQueen.
It was more than 50 years ago but the incident still makes her blush.
Looking back on their meeting, Sherrie said: “It was just so horrendous. I was so stupid and young, I didn’t know why I was there.
“It was a publicity stunt, but it went very wrong.”
She met the Great Escape hero while she was training at acting school RADA.
After Hollywood legend McQueen gave a lecture, Sherrie was asked to give him a sightseeing tour of London.

It was when they went for dinner that things went wrong.
She said: “I was probably chosen because I was one of the quietest. I was stupid and didn’t even speak.
“I was so gobsmacked. There was a big Hollywood movie star and then there was me from Nottingham.
“We went to a restaurant and I didn’t know it was all fish. And I’m allergic to most fish.

“I ordered clam chowder. As I ate it, I immediately felt my stomach go and then I projectile vomited all over him.
“I ran out and was sick all over the pavement.”
Sherrie, 71, recalled: “The last thing I remember is them throwing me in a taxi and then looking out the back window and seeing Steve McQueen with sick all down his beautiful white polo neck jumper.
“He must have thought, ‘Get that girl out of my sight’. Obviously, I never heard from him again.”
