Coronation Street legend Richard Hawley's secret role in Love Actually stuns fans

Soap fans have expressed their surprise after finding out that Richard Hawley — who plays Johnny Connor in Coronation Street — is in a popular festive flick.

His character was tragically killed off the ITV soap earlier this year after he perished in a sinkhole while trying to rescue estranged wife Jenny.

Viewers missing the Corrie star however have been surprised to see him pop up during their festive film binges in the hit romcom Love Actually, which was released in 2003.

Richard plays the part of Deputy Prime Minister Alex In the Richard Curtis classic, which also stars Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley and Colin Firth.

Fans took to social media to share their discovery, with one fan tweeting: “Just watching Love Actually and seen Johnny! I didn’t know he was in it!”

Another user made the same observation, writing: “Tell me if I’m right or wrong on this if I’m right after all of these years watching Love Actually this is Johnny isn’t it from Coronation Street.”

A fellow eagle-eyed fan replied to confirm, saying: “It certainly is I remember watching this last year and thinking the same thing.”

The shocking crossover has been exposed only a couple of days after the show broadcasted a scene recreating the famous ‘cue cards moment’ from Love Actually.

Curtis Delamere used written messages to demonstrate his love for Emma Brooker after she sent him home on their wedding day for stealing £100,000 that had been collected for a charity established in memory of her half-brother Oliver Battersby.

The Corrie favourite has been surprising fans by popping up in a Christmas classic

He pulled the stunt in an attempt to win her back, telling her ‘I’m sorry’ and ‘I love you.’

She was unimpressed however and sent Curtis packing again, telling him: “If you’ve any idea how much you’ve humiliated me and then you do this.

“Is this a joke to you?”
