Kate Garraway details 'most lovely moment' that husband Derek laughed

Kate Garraway detailed the moving moment that husband Derek Draper responded to a joke with laughter, while presenting Good Morning Britain on Christmas Eve.

Kate’s comment comes almost two years since her husband contracted the virus.

Continuing to recover from coronavirus, Derek was admitted to hospital with Covid-19 back in March 2020, but has since returned home where he is being cared for by his wife Kate.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain with co-host Richard Bacon on Christmas Eve, Kate issued a touching update that left fans and viewers feeling incredibly happy for the GMB star.

Since returning home, Derek has faced obstacles with his communication. Kate spoke on the show and said: “Sometimes it’s like he’s not present with you.”

But in an exciting turn of events with his progression and recovery, Kate detailed the moment when she, her two children and her parents were playing a game by Derek’s bedside, when he suddenly and unexpectedly communicated and responded.

During the game, which was about morals, all participating players were asked: “Who’s most likely to find money on the floor and keep it?”

Kate said: “Everyone in the room all said at the same time, Darcy [Kate and Derek’s daughter] And he [Derek] started to laugh.

“It was just the most lovely moment because you thought, he does get it, he does understand.”

She continued: “And he’s right! Because she is the most likely!”

Speaking to Richard, Kate explained: “You get these extraordinary flashes which create a huge surge of hope.

“That has to sustain you through the periods where it feels like there’s never going to be any change.

“But most of all we’re lucky that we have the chance, because of a lot of people passed away.”

Fans and viewers took to Twitter to share Kate’s joy, with one writing: “Just wanted Kate to wish you and the family a very Merry Christmas and hope 2022 is you and your families year, for bigger, better and Derek’s getting well year xx.”

Another said: “Happy Christmas Kate to you Derek and the family. You truly are an inspiration to others.”
