LadBaby becomes 70th Official Christmas Number One after tense Kunts chart battle

LadBaby has won the race to be crowned the Christmas Number One 2021 with their track Sausage Rolls for Everyone, smashing previous records held by The Beatles.

They are the first act to ever achieve four consecutive Christmas Number Ones, beating The Beatles’ previously held title with three.

Scott Mills shared the news on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart on Christmas Eve.

The winner was decided based on who has made the most single sales as well as total streaming figures.

There were some pretty strong contenders for Christmas number one this year.

Among them were Ed Sheeran and Elton John with their song Merry Christmas which landed straight into number one on the Official Singles Chart upon its release.

Other potential chart-toppers include George Ezra with Come On Home For Christmas, Wigan-based band The Lathums with Krampus – and for the first time ever, ABBA with Little Thing.

Last year, LadBaby won the Christmas number one spot with the song ‘Don’t Stop Me Eatin’.

All money raised from the song was donated to the Trussell Trust food bank charity.

Mark Ian Hoyle, commonly known by his Internet pseudonym LadBaby, is a British graphic designer, lifestyle blogger, number one bestselling children’s book author and YouTuber from Nottingham.

The couple had the Christmas number one on the UK Singles Chart in 2018, 2019 and 2020 with the novelty songs We Built This City, I Love Sausage Rolls and Don’t Stop Me Eatin’ respectively.

This made them only the third act to secure three consecutive Christmas number ones, following The Beatles and the Spice Girls.

LadBaby fans were left thrilled with the achievement, as one tweeted: “Come on Mark and Rox… 4th in a row and all for an amazing cause!”

Someone else followed up: “Congratulations @LadBabyOfficial on Breaking The Christmas NO1 Record!!!!!! 4 NO1’s!”

“Congratulations to @LadBabyOfficial for smashing the Christmas Charts again. Number 1 4 years in a row. Yes Mate!!!!” another fan congratulated.

However, others were furious that, after two years of a pandemic, The Kunts Christmas track ‘Boris Johnson is STILL a F***ing C***’.

The two acts came to verbal blows as LadBaby insisted amid their feud: “It takes a certain sort of person to download a song with that in the title.”

However, the punk band soon fired back: “It takes the sort of person that is prepared to look beyond the tepid diarrhoea that is pumped into people’s consciousness via mainstream TV, radio and the tabloid newspapers.

“The sort of person that is prepared [to] stand up for what they believe in and call out the government on their lies, cover-ups and corruption.

“The sort of person who can see that it was the Conservatives’ politics of selfishness, misery and deprivation that caused this country to need food banks in the first place.”

Proceeds from their track, meanwhile, will be donated to charities including Mind and Cardiac Risk in the Young, after band members were personally affected by both causes.
