Mara Wilson leaves This Morning viewers speechless as she looks unrecognisable

On Christmas Day, Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby presented a very festive episode of This Morning.

After gifting Gino D’acampo a portrait painted by ‘pricaso’, Holly and Phil welcomed a very special guest.

Child star, Mara Wilson, who is best known for her acting in Matilda, Miracle on 34th Street, Mrs Doubtfire and A Simple Wish, appeared on the show.

The now 34-year-old took a step away from the limelight after being a big name in Hollywood movies during the 1990s, but decided to give the UK a special gift when she appeared on the popular ITV magazine show on Christmas Day.

Chatting to Holly and Phil, Mara spoke of her life during and after rising to fame, the death of her mother, and how Danny DeVito was like an uncle to her when she starred in Matilda.

Viewers at home couldn’t believe how different the child star looks now, with many taking to Twitter to discuss how strikingly different she looks.

One viewer noted: “Wow Look at Mara Wilson. She looks so different to when she was in Mrs Doubtfire. You wouldn’t even recognise her at all.”

While another raved over the star’s appearance on the show: “Omg best present is having @MaraWilson on @thismorning.”

A third: “Mara Wilson makes me feel old!”

While a fourth tweeted: “Watching @MaraWilson on this morning the world needs more Mara.”

And a fifth said: “Mara Wilson is childhood nostalgia in human form.”

Mara took a step away from acting and has since performed in podcasts and audiobooks. She even stated on This Morning that she enjoys voice acting, hinting that she did more so than traditional acting.

Matilda was released in 1996

More recently Mara wrote an opinion piece for the New York Times where she commented on the documentary Framing Britney Spears and the parallels between their lives as child stars.

37-year-old Mara recalled the time that she was asked to comment on the sexuality of 18-year-old Britney, while she herself was just 13.

She described her disappointment when a reporter called her a “spoiled brat” after she honestly stated that she wanted the day off on her 13th birthday rather than giving interviews.
