Lorraine Kelly wants to swap daytime TV for a gritty crime drama Line Of Duty

TV star Lorraine Kelly would love to appear on a very different type of show, swapping the daytime sofa for the police station in Line Of Duty.

The breakfast television legend is obsessed with the crime drama, so a cameo role would be a dream come true for her.

She told Daily Star: “I’m a big fan of the show. It’s really good. It’s so gripping, I love to binge-watch it and I’d love to be in it.”

Line Of Duty’s Martin Compston needn’t worry though, she’s not after his leading role.

Lorraine explained: “I don’t mind just being in the background.

She added: “I could be an office worker or a police officer. It doesn’t matter what role they give me – I’ll do anything.”

Could we see Lorraine making the tea in the background of a future series?

“It would be great to be in a police thing. I always wanted to be in Taggart, but it never happened,” she confessed.

It turns out Lorraine isn’t the only star keen to join the cast of the smash-hit show, that investigates police corruption in the AC-12 department.

Lorraine will need to join the queue as Dame Joan Collins and David Tennant have also said they’re keen to bag roles in the show.

When you look at the ratings Line Of Duty gets, it’s no wonder so many celebs want to do it.

Despite the stiff competition from fellow celebs, Lorraine may have the edge because she is something of a pro when it comes to doing a cameo.

The presenter has played herself in a string of shows including One Foot In The Grave, The Bill and Scottish soap River City.

Back in 2019 she landed another dream role when she got to appear in her favourite show, Coronation Street.

Despite doing so many appearances, Lorraine insists she still isn’t bored yet. She said: “I love doing cameos on shows.

“It’s like you have walked inside your TV – especially when it’s something like Coronation Street that you’ve watched for years.

“It’s always really good.”

Move over Vicky McClure.
