The Chase fans all say the same thing as they spot name connection between contestants

The Chase bosses kept things in season during the latest festive edition of the ITV quiz show as fans pointed out that the names of each player had a Christmas link.

Contestants Mary, Joseph, Gabrielle and Dave are tried their luck against Mark Labbett aka The Beast during Tuesday’s show.

As soon as the players’ names had been announced, it didn’t take long before tweets from viewers pointing out the common connection started to roll in on social media.

One fan tweeted: “I’m no Stephen Hawking, but aren’t these contestants all named after something biblical?”

Another fan had also spotted the pattern and tweeted: “Keeping things Christmassy with their religious names.”

Introducing the contestants, Bradley Walsh had even failed to recognise the observation as it had taken The Beast to reveal the link.

Despite Mary, Joseph and Gabrie being easily identifiable biblical names, The Chaser hilariously joked about how the 37-year-old contestant Dave was quite a random addition to the line-up.

The Beast said: “There’s Mary, Joseph, Gabrielle… and then there’s Dave.” which had caused many audience members to burst out in hysterics and left viewers at home confused about why Dave was included in the line-up.

One fan tweeted: “Dave must’ve been the innkeeper lol”

However, the shrewd ITV producers knew what they were doing – quizzing viewers at home, as even Dave, or in fact, David, had a biblical link

The City of David is a historical name given to the location of Jerusalem – proving that ITV bosses did their religious digging when adding Dave to the line-up.

In the episode, after saying good-bye to Gabrielle and Mary, Liverpool born Joseph and Dave, a writer, had seen themselves in the final chase against The Beast where they were playing for a grand £11k.

In the final chase against the two contestants, The Beast’s performance was abysmal as he said that was the worst game he played, losing out on a short 11 questions.

However, a very happy Dave and Joseph were able to bank the £11k and take home a joyous £5.5k each.
