Kate Garraway is set to become the next Nick Knowles as she gears up to present a new TV show all about decorating and adapting people’s homes.
The popular Good Morning Britain anchor has taken inspiration from looking after and adapting her home for her husband Derek Draper, which has led to a new TV show – Life Changing Homes, according to The Sun.
With the new show set to have a similar premise to Nick Knowles’ DIY SOS, Kate and a team of decorators will head into the home of the occupants who need to adapt their home after a major change to their lives.
Whether they’ve had an accident or an illness, Kate and her team will sort everything out for the family and make sure it’s accessible and functioning.
Speaking to the publication, a TV insider explained that the GMB favourite is “the perfect person to front a show like this” because she has first hand experience of adapting a home and caring for somebody with an illness.
Kate is an incredibly popular TV presenter, and her fans adore her down-to-earth persona, which is very relatable for so many.
“She really connects with the public,” the insider revealed, because like so many people in the country, “she has gone through a rough time since the pandemic started.”
The show is currently in its early stages, with it just being a pilot that was filmed in the autumn of 2021, but the insider told The Sun that ITV have “high hopes it will become a new series in the new year”.
Kate has had masses of TV success this year, with her documentary Finding Derek bagging a National Television Award. She’s even making a follow-up programme to show viewers how far his recovery has come since he came home.
Derek was admitted to hospital with Covid-19 back in March 2020, at the start of the pandemic, but has since returned home where he is being cared for by his wife Kate.
The popular presenter has spent thousands on her London house, in order for her husband to receive the care that he needs.
She turned the ground floor into a dedicated space for Derek, so that he can have a special hospital bed and medical kit in an easily accessible place, as well as a wheelchair lift and a wet room too.
Not only did she think in a medical way for his physical recovery, but she added large floor-to-ceiling windows so that as Derek recovers he can watch his two children play in the garden.
We can’t wait to see how much Kate will help other families with her nifty ideas and skilled team.
