Arguably the biggest trial of the century, millions of people around the world were waiting on tenterhooks to learn if Ghislaine Maxwell would be found guilty in the Jeffrey Epstein sexual abuse case.
Maxwell, 60, was found guilty on five of six counts of sex trafficking allegations on Wednesday.
Former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan, 56, took a thinly-veiled swipe at Prince Andrew following the verdict and shared that he hoped it would be a wake-up call for the world’s most powerful men.
Tweeting to his 7.9million followers, Piers said: “Will vile sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell now sing like a canary to avoid spending the rest of her life in prison?
“If she does, there could be a lot of rich, powerful & famous people sweating tonight… and not sweating.”
The “not sweating” remark was seemingly a dig at Prince Andrew, who famously said he didn’t sweat, in his bombshell 2019 interview with the BBC.
The Duke of York mentioned the condition – which is known as anhidrosis – when journalist Emily Maitlis questioned him about claims he slept with a 17-year-old girl in 2001.
Virginia Giuffre, formerly known as Virginia Roberts, claims she was trafficked by deceased billionaire paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and was forced to sleep with the prince between 2001 and 2002.
Recalling their alleged meeting, Giuffre claimed she met Andrew at London’s Tramp nightclub in 2001 and remarked that he was “profusely sweating”.
However, the duke claimed Giuffre’s claims couldn’t be true as he was unable to sweat at the time.
He claimed: “I have a peculiar medical condition which is that I don’t sweat or I didn’t sweat at the time.
“I didn’t sweat at the time because I had suffered what I would describe as an overdose of adrenaline in the Falklands War when I was shot at and I simply… it was almost impossible for me to sweat.”
Prince Andrew then added that it was only due to having “done a number of things in the recent past” that he was able to sweat again.
He has also vehemently denied all of Giuffre’s claims.
