Coronation Street's Tristan Gemmill unrecognisable in long hair panto transformation

Former Coronation Street star Tristan Gemmill’s latest acting role has left him completely unrecognisable, as he has a beard and long brown hair.

The actor, known for playing chef Robert Preston on the long-running ITV soap, left his Instagram followers astounded with the new look for his role in Robin Hood at Nottingham Theatre Royal.

On Corrie, Tristan was a bit of a silver fox, as he sported a cropped grey ‘do and clean-shaven face for his role as love rat Robert.

But as he got in character as the Sheriff in the festive pantomime, he looked completely different thanks to the talent hair and makeup team.

Tristan, 54, shared an image in his fun costume with his 19.5k followers, alongside the caption: “The Sheriff is in the house!”

He could be seen with a long, straight brown wig which fell at his shoulders, and a full bear of the same colour.

The actor added a touch of evil with some smoky black eyeliner and a menacing look.

One follower commented: “Absolutely incredible.”

A second simply said: “Wow!”

Someone else wrote: “Great hair Tristan.”

Proving the new look was a drastic change, a fourth commented: “Took me a minute to realise who this was! Wow.”

While a fifth added: “Impressive.”

Meanwhile, countless others left a comment to say how much they’d enjoyed the production of Robin Hood and his performance as the villain.

It’s just over two years since Tristan left Coronation Street, after his character Robert was killed off on Christmas Day in 2019.

At the time, Robert was in a relationship with Michelle Connor, played by Kym Marsh, but they were going through some struggles.

On their wedding day, his cheating and love child was exposed, and they never ended up tying the knot.

Robert was later shot by accident during a terrifying incident at the Rovers, and he never got to meet his son.

Tristan wasn’t actually the first actor to play Robert, who was introduced as Tracy Barlow’s first husband in 1996.

From 1996 to 2003, Robert was played by Julian Kay, but was reintroduced in 2015 with Tristan in the role.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV
