Ryan Reynolds has led moving tributes to Golden Girls legend Betty White.
The 99-year-old star, one of the longest working actors in Hollywood, was found dead on New Year’s Eve.
Betty passed away days before her 100th birthday and was one of the most celebrated stars in La La Land.
The Deadpool actor, who starred in the rom-com The Proposal alongside Betty, wrote: “The world looks different now. She was great at defying expectation. She managed to grow very old and somehow, not old enough. We’ll miss you, Betty. Now you know the secret.”
Other celebrities have followed suit by posting moving tributes online.
American actress Reese Witherspoon has praised the late Betty White for “making us all laugh” after it was announced the actress has died at age 99.
The Legally Blonde star reshared an announcement by Vanity Fair magazine on Twitter and wrote: “So sad to hear about Betty White passing.
“I loved watching her characters that brought so much joy.
“Thank you, Betty, for making us all laugh!”
Star Trek star George Takei is among the famous faces from around the globe who are paying respect to the acclaimed actress Betty White.
Takei wrote on Twitter: “Our national treasure, Betty White, has passed just before her 100th birthday.
“Our Sue Ann Nivens, our beloved Rose Nylund, has joined the heavens to delight the stars with her inimitable style, humor, and charm.
“A great loss to us all. We shall miss her dearly.”
The actor added that everyone should toast to White when midnight strikes in honour of the actress.
Kerry Washington said: “Oh Dear Lord. Heaven just got a new superstar to celebrate with tonight!
“An icon, a legend, a trailblazer, a badass, and a ray of sunshine who gifted us creative genius, joy and laughter for 99 years. Thank you for your bold and generous spirit. Rest In Peace”
Happy Days star Henry Winkler wrote on Twitter: “I(t) is very hard to absorb you are not here anymore.. But the memories of your deLIGHT are.. Thank you for your humour, your warmth and your activism… Rest now and say Hi to Bill.”
Actress Viola Davis wrote on Twitter: “Man did I think you would live forever. You blew a huge hole in this world that will inspire generations.
“Rest in glorious peace… you’ve earned your wings.”
White, born in Illinois in 1922 started her career in radio in the late 1930s and made her TV debut singing on an experimental channel in LA in 1939.
Betty, known for being an amazing actress, also served during World War II as a member of the American Women’s Voluntary Services.
The US Army paid tribute by writing: “A true legend on and off the screen.”
After WWII she was a regular on a daily five-hour live variety show in 1949 before co-founding a production company and starring, co-creating, and producing 1950s sitcom Life with Elizabeth.
One of her most celebrated roles in The Golden Girls saw her win an Emmy in 1986, and was nomitated several times throughout her career.
She starred in many TV and movie roles, including Sandra Bullock’s The Proposal with Ryan Reynolds in 2009.
Fans have begun leaving a memorial on her Hollywood star, with flowers, candles, teddy bears, and photos left on her tile.
