The Masked Singer's Nicola Roberts says therapy was 'best gift' after stalker ordeal

Nicola Roberts has told how she turned to therapy to help her cope with the trauma of being stalked – and said it was the “best gift” she could give herself.

The Girls Aloud star’s ex Carl Davies was given a lifetime restraining order for stalking her in 2017.

The star later said she had been left too scared to take her dogs for a walk.

Nicola, 36, has now revealed that she sought therapy after the experience.

The Liverpool-born star told Fabulous magazine: “Therapy was the best gift I ever gave myself, and now I tell all my friends to do it.”

She added: “I started in 2018, when I was 33, because of the trauma I’d faced with a stalker.”

The Masked Singer star also opened up about how she didn’t always love her looks, thinking she was too pale.

She said it intensified when she was thrust into the public eye after winning a place in Girls Aloud alongside Nadine Coyle, Cheryl, Kimberley Walsh and the late Sarah Harding.

However, as Nicola got older she says her idea of what was beautiful changed and she started to embrace her appearance.

“As a young woman, loving yourself is top priority,” she said.

“If you completely love yourself and you have high self-respect, you won’t tolerate negative things. But when you’re operating from a place that isn’t entirely full of self-love, bad things get through the cracks.”

The singer said that nowadays she couldn’t think of anything worse than going to bed each night not accepting the way that she looks.

In December, Davies was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison for stalking TV star Louise Minchin and her daughter.

Davies, of Flint, admitted causing alarm and distress to both Louise and her daughter Mia in July 2020 by posting intimidating comments on Instagram.
