Fans of The Masked Singer are certain they’ve worked out the identity of one kooky character on the ITV singing competition.
Traffic Cone stormed onto the stage on Sunday night for his first performance, performing Rick Astley’s smash hit Never Gonna Give You Up – but fans are certain the track choice was a “double bluff”.
They reckon Rick himself could be behind the orange mask.
It certainly wouldn’t be beyond the realm of possibility that the show could be throwing a few red herrings into the mix, especially as fans predicted not one but two people are inhabiting Robobunny’s costume.
Taking to social media to air their guesses, one Twitter user posted: “I’d love it if Traffic Cone was actually Rick Astley himself! TBF Viking sang Take On Me and it was the lead singer!”
Another echoed: “Traffic Cone definitely Rick Astley doing a bad impression of Rick Astley.”
As someone else agreed: “Traffic Cone… double bluff, Rick Astley?”
“Traffic Cone Rick Astley? Last year Morton Harket sang his own song so maybe?” a fourth fan posted.
Another fan simply wrote: “Are we being Rick Rolled right now?”
Fans have just a smattering of clues as to Traffic Cone’s true identity, including: “Traffic Cone — they may be able to stop traffic in this high-vis high fashion costume.”
He told the audience: “The shape of a traffic cone is something that’s close to my heart.
“I’m hoping I’m on the road to success, cos there ain’t no Plan B!”
The judges didn’t mention Rick himself, as Jonathan Ross hilariously suggested it could be Prince Harry himself under the orange costume.
Other guesses included Chris Kamara and Peter Andre.
Rick would be in good company so far, as the first unmasking was shown to be singing legend Heather Small as Chandelier.
The icon had distorted her voice slightly to confuse gobsmacked fans, as she admitted keeping her appearance on the show a secret was difficult.
Heather explained: “I would say it is difficult, especially when you are with one of the nosiest people on the planet – my mother!”
And speaking of the judges’ guesses, she giggled: “Hilarious, as they were so off the mark!”
