GMB's Richard Arnold in tears as he marks 25 years on TV and talks 'retirement'

Richard Arnold couldn’t contain his emotion as he celebrated 25 years on Good Morning Britain.

The 51-year-old has become quite a big name in the showbiz world – having interviewed some of the best in the business across his more than two-decade career.

On Friday’s show, host Kate Garraway, 54, and Ben Shephard, 47, weren’t about to let Richard walk away without marking his big day on the ITV channel.

After poking fun of the celebrity expert in a throwback snap, Kate said: “Shall we see some of your best bits Richard?”

As the compilation of snippets played out, Richard struggled to fend off the tears and when the camera returned to him in the studio and emotions were certainly running high.

Wiping his eyes, Richard explained: “We’re very lucky, we get to interview people that we’ve grown up with and of course its a huge privilege to connect with everybody at home after all this time.”

He went on: “I will be retiring from public life at least on Good Morning Britain…”

Before he could finish, the Tipping Point host exclaimed: “We’ve only just dragged you back in, what an earth are you talking about?”

Continuing, the showbiz correspondent joked: “I’ve got about two weeks to brush up my skills on the off side rule, I’ve got know idea what I’m doing.”

At which point the entire clan fell about the place laughing – knowing that Richard had been mixed up with the new Manchester United football manger – also named Richard Arnold.

Carrying on the banter, he remarked: “I’m going to need a graphic for that, OK.”

“That’ll take more than two weeks Rich.

“And congratulations it’s been a pleasure to work with you,” said Ben.

With tears in his eyes, Richard chirped back: “It’s been a pleasure to work with you all as well.”

Pointing to Kate he exclaimed: “I mean we have worked together for 20 odd years.

“Charlotte… and it’s Laura isn’t it? Best part of a decade mate… so it is nice to be part of a family of faces that wake up the nation and you guys at home as well.”

Finishing the heartwarming chat, Kate said: “Its a privilege to be around you because you make everybody else look better, that’s what I think.”
