Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps star Will Mellor says reboot is 'revamped'

Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps star Will Mellor has revealed how a reboot of the cult sitcom is ready to go.

However there is one big issue at the moment after the BBC turn it down.

The script has been penned by show creator Susan Nickson and will see him and Ralf Little resurrect their characters Gaz Wilkinson and Jonny Keogh.

Will says: “We’ve got the scripts – it’s called Two Pints: Last Orders. It’s revamped.

“It’s a spin-off about Gaz and Jonny, and it’s really funny.

“It’s been brought up to the modern day but Gaz and Jonny are still very old school and sit in the pub talking about pies and beer.”

There’s just one snag – the BBC has turned it down. So they are hoping to get it on another platform.

Will, who recently played drug dealer Harvey Gaskell in Corrie, says: “Fans are going mad for it, so we’ve got the audience.

“The BBC said no, they don’t want to revisit Two Pints.

“Now we’re going to look for someone else, whether it’s another channel, whether it’s Britbox or Netflix, because there’s a massive audience for this.”

The sitcom following a group of pals in Runcorn ran from 2001 to 2011 and made household names of its cast. But one star who won’t be returning is Sheridan Smith.

Will, who recently said she “never reached out” to him when his father died of cancer last year, says: “I was trying to talk to the cast about a musical extravaganza of the actual TV series. And the problem was, we just couldn’t get the cast together.

“I haven’t spoken to Sheridan in six years. I don’t really know her any more, I suppose.”

With episodes called Finger Sniffing and Bone With The Wind, it’s no surprise Will thinks the original Two Pints might not go down very well in today’s woke world.

He says: “It would get slaughtered for being too offensive.

“It’d be quite funny if Gaz wasn’t politically correct and people had to keep correcting him because someone who sits in a garage all day and lives in a pub tends to say things you’re not supposed to say any more.”

After getting a No1 with his Euro 2020 football song Vindaloo 2, which raised thousands for the NHS last year, Will has also decided to try stand-up comedy.

He says: “I’m not saying that I’d be great – it’s something that scares me – but I have always thought I’d like to have a go at it.

“I know it’s not easy. I would do it the right way and do the circuit and try it out.

“I’ve been writing things. Like how have we gone from Blind Date to Naked Attraction? What’s next?”

In 2020 Will launched a hit podcast with his co-star, called Two Pints With Will and Ralf.

And it’s proved such a success, they are going on a live tour.

Will, 45, says: “There’s a bit of nostalgia, topical stuff, getting people on stage, loads of fun, games.

“It’s going to be a bit of everything – an entertaining night out where the audience can feel part of the show. Me and Ralf just make each other laugh.”
