Gino D’Acampo slammed rumours that his restaurant chain has gone into liquidation, calling out the “c***” that has been reported about the Italian pasta bar.
My Pasta Bar, a chain of three restaurants in Central London that serve Italian dishes, were opened by Gino ten years ago.
Recent reports have said that Gino has given up on the franchise and that the company has amassed debts of upwards of £5 million, but Gino was quick to tell his 1.4 million Instagram followers that was not the case.
After speculations about his financial situation began to circulate, Gino uploaded a video explaining that he wanted to “set the record straight” and began by saying: “We just came back from the island of Sardinia, I was there with the family and when I got back I saw a lot of c*** being written about my restaurant.”
“Apparently, my restaurant has gone into liquidation.”
He continued: “Now, I don’t usually do stuff like this but I thought, ‘Let me set the record straight here.’ About ten years ago, I opened a business called Pasta Bar, serving very fast food in the centre of London. Three little shops.”
“We tried for ten years and then Covid-19 came around and I thought, ‘Do you know what? We had to close.’ There was no point pursuing the idea which, by the way, I absolutely love and I will continue with another business,” reassured the 3 Michelin star holder.
He went on to explain that My Pasta Bar is a different and separate business to his restaurants, which include the My Restaurant franchise and Luciano, named after his first born son.
He calmed worried fans by mentioning that his restaurant businesses are “thriving” and that “The Pasta Bar business has got nothing to do with my restaurant business, import business or any other business that I do. It’s a stand alone business going into liquidation.”
“We have to move on, this is what business is all about. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.”
“Now, let’s talk about the restaurant business which is growing really, really well. So much so that this year alone, I’m going to be opening three mega sites and one will be opening in Italy!”
The proud Italian culinary extraordinaire exclaimed: “We did it!” before going on to explain how he managed to secure the expansion: “If you live around the area, the restaurant used to be called Piccolino. So I kicked them out and now it’s called Luciano, like my son.”
