This Morning viewers slam Holly Willoughby for 'insensitive' quip to Rose Ayling-Ellis

Holly Willoughby has been accused of being “insensitive” after she told deaf star Rose Ayling-Ellis you won’t be able “to hear a pin drop” when she performs her silent dance on the Strictly tour.

This Morning presenter Holly made the “awkward” blunder as she and co-host Phillip Schofield chatted to Rose and her pro partner Giovanni Pernice about the upcoming Strictly shows.

The pair confirmed they will recreate their moving Couple’s Choice routine, which featured a silent segment to raise awareness of what life is like for the deaf community.

Giovanni told the hosts that performing it on the BBC ballroom series had been “spectacular”, and said they both wanted to do it on tour.

Strictly winner Rose, 27, then joked that she hoped nobody was eating crisps when they performed it.

And Holly replied to say that she was sure you wouldn’t be able “to hear a pin drop” when Rose and Gio took to the stage.

However, the remark went down badly with viewers.

“Well that was awkward Holly, telling Rose she won’t be able to hear a pin drop in the audience,” one person tweeted.

“I can’t believe Holly just told Rose ‘you won’t hear a pin drop’ how insensitive @hollywills,” said another.

“Telling a deaf person ‘you won’t be able to hear a pin drop’… Dear oh dear,” posted another.

One said it was “a bit crass and rude”.

“Stupid comment Holly, you won’t hear a pin drop,” said another.

One viewer wrote: “The saying is you CAN hear a pin drop so doubly awkward Holly said you won’t be able to hear a pin drop…”

EastEnders star Rose was a huge favourite on the 2021 series of the ballroom contest.

She was always a frontrunner, then she and Giovanni beat John Whaite and Johannes Radebe in the glitzy final last month.
