The Apprentice candidate Akeem Bundu-Kamara may claim to be a “numbers guy” on his BBC CV, but the truth may be stretched just a little.
30-year-old Akeem runs sportswear brand Lockr Sports Ltd., which is reportedly worth just a measly £28.
And though the star insists he is on “the pathway to making it”, his figures unfortunately tell a very different story.
According to MailOnline, his company – which stocks sustainable sports clothing and shoes – had assets of £221 in its first set of annual accounts in January 2021.
With the deduction of liabilities totalling £193, the business was worth just £28 according to the accounts.
However, with the company being in its first year of trading and with only one employee during the accounting period, it could all be upwards from here.
And Akeem released a statement to explain the rather underwhelming figures, elaborating: “I incorporated my company, an online sustainable sportswear retailer, in January 2020 but didn’t launch the website until December 2020.
“I started the brand as a side-hustle with very little investment, but have been developing and growing the business over the last year.
“In its first year, the website has gone from strength to strength, the portfolio of brands we stock has increased and I’m excited about its continuing growth.”
The Lockr Space website opens with the slogan: “Sportswear with a conscience” and offers a range of eco-friendly gym outfits, accessories and shoes.
A keen footballer, Akeem was inspired to create his first retail site after buying a gym top he found ill-fitting.
Its About Us page reads: “We ran a series of interviews with athletes at every level and we learnt that although they were wildly diverse, they all shared similar philosophies: sustainable materials, for athletes of all types and the element of choice. This enabled us to create a true home for sportswear.”
Akeem’s business wants to move away from fast fashion for everyday athletes – with an emphasis on diverse ranges.
He’s keen to impress business mogul Lord Sugar this week after finding himself in the bottom three in The Apprentice’s launch week alongside first fired candidate Harry Mahmood and Akshay Thakrar.
Harry, however, was the one to fall at the first hurdle – but not before confiding in Daily Star that fellow candidate Aaron Willis has been up to some “mind games” throughout the process.
The Apprentice continues on Thursday at 9pm on BBC One.
