Phillip Schofield has poked fun at Prime Minister Boris Johnson by asking him to come onto a future series of Dancing on Ice in case he is looking at ‘different career options’.
Speaking to Daily Star and other press ahead of the new ITV series, hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby were asked who they would like to see appear on the show in the future.
Phillip then hinted party-loving Mr Johnson could take part, saying: “Well I think you’ve got to look for someone who’s maybe looking at different career options or different things to do so that they can fill in the extra time.
“So maybe Boris, he has some extra time on his hands.”
Holly joined in, saying: “And we have great office parties.
Phillip added: “Look at us with our great office parties and, what’s more, we have all got just a little bit of cheese.”
It comes as Boris aka “Bozo” was branded a “dead man walking” last night after he finally admitted he went to a lockdown-busting Downing Street garden party – but insisted it was “work”.
Rivals across all parties laid into him for his half-hearted apology. Bozo said he thought the 40-strong drinks do was a “work event”, despite the invite from his aide to 100 staff, telling them to “bring your own booze”.
Appearing at a packed PMQs, he faced repeated calls to resign.
Bozo told the Commons: “I want to apologise. I have learned enough to know that there were things we simply did not get right and I must take responsibility. I believed implicitly that this was a work event.
“With hindsight I should have sent everyone inside.”
Meanwhile, Phillip’s comments came during a press conference ahead of the premiere of the new series of Dancing on Ice, which returns to ITV on Saturday, January 16 2022.
This Morning presenters Phillip and Holly will return to host the programme, alongside a celebrity judging panel including Ashley Banjo, Strictly star Oti Mabuse and ice skating legends Torvill and Dean.
Taking to the ice will be a host of celebrity stars including Coronation Street actress Sally Dynevor, Happy Mondays dancer Bez, Love Island beauty Liberty Poole and S Club 7 singer Rachel Stevens.
They will be joined by paralympian Stef Reid, rugby star Ben Foden as well as Paul Gascoine’s son Regan.
Completing the lineup is former Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Brendan Cole, olympian Kye Whyte, Lorraine celebrity correspondant Ria Hebden, Pussycat Doll Kimberley Wyatt and The Vamp’s singer Connor Ball.
Dancing on Ice will see the celebrity contestants partnered up with a professional ice skater, ready to perform enthralling routines in the hope of being crowned the next champion and follow in the footsteps of 2021 winner and radio DJ Sonny Jay.
Dancing on Ice returns this Sunday on ITV and ITV Hub at 6.30
