The Masked Singer is one of the hottest shows on the primetime TV circuit at the moment and the ITV show has been doing its best to help viewers shake off the January blues.
All four judges are keeping their eyes peeled for all the subtle clues dropped throughout the series that give hints as to who it is behind the elaborate costumes.
And during last week’s Movie week, we got to know a little more about our star-studded judging panel after Jonathan Ross revealed he had also made his acting debut in several big-time movies.
But he’s not the only celebrity on the show who has had a brush with movie stardom as some of his fellow judges have also had secret roles in blockbuster movies throughout their showbiz careers.
As viewers prepare to watch the next instalment of the hidden talent competition, the Daily Star have taken a deep dive inside the judge’s secret Hollywood stints.
Jonathan Ross
The 61-year-old is known for his many years working as a world-renowned talk show host on ITV interviewing some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
But after years of speaking to the slew of actors who have made a name for themselves through their legendary roles on the silver screen, the dad-of-three thought he would give it a go himself.
During the late nineties, Jonathan decided to turn his hand to the art of acting as he made his movie debut in the global pop icon Spice World.
Although his part in the film was brief the TV star made a cameo appearance in the hit film alongside the greats including Roger Moore, Hugh Laurie, Jennifer Saunders and Richard E. Grant.
And it’s fair to say the film was a success after they smashed box office records and broke the record for the highest-level weekend debut for Super Bowl weekend with sales of more than $10 million.
After his acting debut, the star was soon asked to get back in front of the cameras when he was asked to voice one of the Ugly Stepsisters alongside the TV legend Joan Rivers in the 2004 sequel Shrek 2.
During last week’s episode of The Masked Singer the doting dad opened up about his brush with Hollywood stardom as host Joel Dommett asked him about his experience.
The TV host asked: “Jonathan, you were in Shrek 2?” to which the judge confirmed: “I played an Ugly Sister; I’ve got no idea why they called me for that one.”
Rita Ora
And he’s not the only member of the panel who has featured in popular blockbuster movies after she made her acting debut in the 2015 film Fifty Shades of Grey.
The 31-year-old played the role of the Mia Grey – the sister of powerful businessman Christian Grey which changed shook viewers across the globe.
After the opening weekend the erotic rom com made more than $85 million and grossed a total of $569.7 million against a budget of $40 million.
Speaking on her time working on the films, Rita recalled how much she learnt from the cast and crew on the successful movie.
She told Marie Claire at the time: “Everyone was super lovable and I learned a lot from the cast.
“I had the best time just learning the craft and I guess the experience of being in such a big movie was super amazing.
“I’m kind of sad it’s over, but I’m also really excited that I get to venture out to different things.”
Following the global success of the hit film, producers went on to the two other films in the trilogy based on the novels of the same name by E.L James.
The singer songwriter reprised her role as Mia in the following films in 2017 and 2018 working alongside the likes of Irish heartthrob Jamie Dornan and American belle Dakota Johnson.
Aside from her part in the trilogy, she also released the song For You in collaboration with Liam Payne for the final instalment of the romantic movie.
Since then, the singer has gone on to develop her acting skills when she performed in the 2021 film Twist, which is an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist.
The star played the role of Artful Dodger in the British classic working alongside Michael Cain and David Walliams in the modern-day adaptation.
Davina McCall
Stepping away from the glitz and the glamour of the Hollywood lights, Big Brother host Davina McCall made her acting debut on the set of the ITV comedy sitcom Sam’s Game.
The 54-year-old played the lead role as a feisty ladette Sam across from her love interest Alex played by Irish comic Ed Bryne in 2001.
The show revolved around the friendship of four friends who share a flat in London together and unsurprisingly found themselves in a series of awkward situations.
Unfortunately, the show only ran for one series which was made up of six episodes, but even during her short time acting in front of the cameras, the star recalled feeling “petrified.”
Speaking to the Daily Mail at the time, the brunette beauty recalled suffering bouts of morning sickness while filming the show as she prepared to welcome her first child Holly later that year.
She told the publication: “I never really considered acting as a career. During school plays I was always the tragic one at the back of the class who got to play a tree or the wind. I never thought I had it in me.
“It was a complete departure for me into the unknown and I was petrified about learning the lines.
“I’m venturing into something I haven’t trained for and people are naturally and understandably going to say, ‘What gives her the right to become an actress?’
“It’s up to them to judge whether I am good or not, but I wouldn’t have accepted the series if I hadn’t been able to watch the pilot and at the end of the day say, ‘That’s okay’, and I wasn’t hiding behind the sofa with a cushion over my eyes.”
Since her series ended, Davina has stayed away from acting roles and returned to her hosting and presenting roles on several talent shows.
Joel Dommett
Before Joel Dommett became the TV presenter we know and love today, he started off as an actor on the teen drama Skins.
It appears as though the 36-year-old initially wanted to break into the acting business after he appeared in a series of TV shows during the early years in his TV career.
Before he landed the role of DC Sweeney in the E4 drama, Joel appeared on beloved shows such as Casualty, Teenage Kicks and Popatron.
But it was his role in the 2010 drama that launched his career and made him a household name when he joined the cast of the show during the fourth series.
The host would have starred alongside Our Girl actor Luke Pasqualino in the series who played the role of teenage heartthrob Freddie McClair.
Now, it seems the TV hunk has settled firmly into stand-up comedy and TV presenting as he left his acting days behind him and went on to join the cast of I’m A Celebrity in 2016.
