Dancing On Ice's Rachel Stevens confesses she 'still needs therapy' from S Club 7 stint

Dancing On Ice star Rachel Stevens was left needing therapy after her time spent in pop band S Club 7.

The singer has admitted that she still needs help from a therapist from the four years she was in the group.

Rachel, 43, opened up about how she “got very good at putting on a show face and putting a lid on things” in a new chat with The Sun.

She was part of S Club between 1999 and 2003 with a chart-topping career that saw her become a household name thanks to their hit singles including S Club Party and Don’t Stop Movin’.

But the success didn’t come without its downsides Rachel admits that their gruelling schedule and commitments took its toll.

She said: “You just kind of push it down and get on with it and suck it up. And that does take a bit of a toll.

“I’ve spent a lot of time trying to learn to undo that. It’s something I have to work on every day. I still speak to a therapist. That really helps.”

However, Rachel doesn’t believe her pop star past will give her any great advantage when it comes to Dancing On Ice.

She previously competed on Strictly Come Dancing in 2008, potentially giving her a slight edge on other contestants thanks to the level of professional dance training she received on that show.

But Rachel believes everyone on the line-up is in an equal position for the competition.

She said: “We all come into the show with our own different backgrounds and careers.

“I’m not a trained dancer. And at the end of the day, it’s on ice so no matter what you do, that adds a whole other level of challenge. It’s crazy.”

Rachels debut on the show will come next Sunday, with her husband Alex and their two daughters ready to cheer her on from the sidelines.

And she has confirmed that the family have no worries over her blossoming professional relationship with dance partner Brendyn Hatfield.

She added: “Brendyn’s such a pro. He’s so strong and makes it look so effortless. I have such trust in him. I’m not worried about being dropped.

“The girls can’t wait to watch. Alex is always very supportive of whatever I choose to do. He says, ‘As long as you don’t rope me in, it’s fine’.”

Dancing On Ice continues Sunday, January 23 at 6.30 pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
