Lorraine viewers outraged as Ghislaine Maxwell's pal dubs her a 'scapegoat'

Lorraine viewers were left fuming on Tuesday (January 18), as the ITV show brought a controversial guest on air.

Lorraine sat down for an interview with one of convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell’s friends, socialite Lady Victoria Hervey – who went as far as to claim the socialite was a “scapegoat” in the Jeffrey Epstein sex case.

She also admitted that hanging out with Ghislaine at parties was “fun”.

Victoria said on the show: “She unfortunately is a scapegoat right now, because there’s no-one else to blame.

“So unfortunately for her she is being taken down for what he’s done as well, which some might argue is not quite as fair as it could be.”

Speaking of the court case, Victoria said: “She hasn’t really named any new names yet, I’m hoping for the people involved that for a lesser jail sentence possibly she will start giving out some names.

“I don’t think we’re quite there yet.”

Turning to Twitter in droves, fuming fans demanded the show be cancelled after the controversial segment aired, with one tweeting: “#Lorraine interviewing [Hervey], well that was a waste of time. A non story and pointless guest […] Lorraine ranting with her long convoluted questions re #GhislaineMaxwell. @ITV enough is enough time to cut the existence of this show.”

Another fumed: “Cannot believe in hindsight what she knows she was among and she said she ‘HAD FUN’!”

As someone else agreed: “The only unfairly treated people are Ghislaine & Epstein’s victims, Maxwell isn’t a scapegoat, she isn’t innocent, she’s a sex trafficker!”

“‘Lady’ Victoria Hervey just called Ghislaine Maxwell a ‘scapegoat’ and the photo of Andrew and his victim ‘stupid’. How out of touch with reality is she?!!” a fourth fan ranted.

Maxwell was found guilty of five of the six charges brought against her during her trial, including sex trafficking a minor.

She was found not guilty of enticement of an individual under the age of 17 to travel with intent to engage in illegal sexual activity.

She now faces up to 65 years behind bars when sentenced, which – aged 60 – means it is likely she will spend the rest of her life in prison.

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
