GMB's Adil Ray takes savage swipe at Boris Johnson as he returns to ITV breakfast show

Adil Ray made a savage dig at Prime Minister Boris Johnson upon his return to Good Morning Britain.

The 47-year-old comedian was back on our screens for the first time this year on Tuesday morning alongside regular host Susanna Reid.

Conversation quickly turned to the fact that Mr Johnson has called for “workplace alcohol ban” inside Number 10 Downing Street after “Partygate”.

Adil and Susanna welcomed former Dragons’ Den star Declan Ballatyne and The Apprentice winner Tim Campbell to join the discussion.

Before the segment, Adil was seen wheeling in a suitcase full of alcohol stating: “I’m ready for work now.”

He continued: “I’d be welcomed to Downing Street with this.”

Susanna agreed as Adil offered broadcaster Charlotte Hawkins an alcoholic beverage.

Mr Johnson is understood to have discussed the illicit parties that were held within Downing Street with the Cabinet Office’s Sue Gray, who is leading the inquiry ahead of its publishing which could come as early as this week.

Whitehall appears to already be bracing for Ms Gray’s findings, with the Prime Minister launching a pre-emptive ‘policy blitz’ in an attempt to push back against the biggest crisis he has endured since taking office in 2019.

An end to Downing Street’s drinking culture has been mooted as a large part of a wider policy shake-up dubbed Operation Red Meat in the wake of the party scandal.

The results from GMB viewers revealed that 82% agreed that alcohol should be banned in the workplace.

It comes after Susanna found herself embroiled in a fiery clash during Tuesday’s show over whether the Prime Minister should resign.

Susanna and Richard Madeley interviewed Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi on the allegations that Downing Street held ‘Wine Time Fridays’ during the pandemic.

The revelation is the latest scandal to hit the government as Downing Street has apologised for holding a number of gatherings during the national lockdown.

Mr Zahawi said the topic is deeply personal to him as his uncle died after contracting Covid-19.

He said: “We couldn’t visit him in hospital properly and we couldn’t give him a proper burial either because of the rules.

“I think the Prime Minister felt that pain and that anguish. I can’t turn the clock back and have a proper burial for my uncle and the Prime Minister says he wishes he could turn the clock back and act differently and ask people to return to their desk, which is why he apologised and said he will submit himself to parliament when Sue Gray completes her investigation.

“That is what she is doing now, now she can go wherever she wants, wherever the evidence takes her and if she finds any rule breaking, law breaking, she can submit that to the Metropolitan Police, that’s part of the reference of her investigation.”

Susanna then quizzed the Conservative minister on whether the PM should resign from his position if he is found to have broken the law.

Mr Zahawi said: “I would wait to see if the investigation does find that… on the big calls… he got them. He’s human and he made mistakes and he came to parliament and said, ‘I wish I could turn the clock back and not have acted in that way.”

The broadcaster continued to put Mr Zahawi on the spot as she called for an answer to her “straightforward question”.

She said: “If a Prime Minister has broken the law, should they stay Prime Minister?’

Richard accused the minister of “swerving” the question before Mr Zahawi admitted that nobody should be above the law.
