Eamonn Holmes hits out at ITV for ‘heavily’ advertising GMB in response to GB News

Eamonn Holmes has hit out at ITV for “heavily” advertising Good Morning Britain for the first time in response to his GB News show.

The presenter, who was axed from This Morning last year, claimed the network is pushing its morning show more now that his rival programme has been “impacting their viewers”.

It came as one GB News fan tweeted: “Just seen @BBCBreakfast being advertised for the first time ever on the BBC. @EamonnHolmes & Isobel Webster on @GBNEWS breakfast must be having one hell of an impact on their viewing figures.”

Eamonn quickly reached out to respond to the social media message, as he posted: “Not the first to say this… GMB advertising heavily as well. Whatever you do stay strong folks and stay with @GBNEWS.”

Eamonn’s co-host Isabel Webster also hopped onto the trend to praise their “fastest growing” breakfast show, as Eamonn admitted they’re happy to accept “defectors” from rival networks.

Isabel posted: “So many lovely messages from listeners and viewers to @EamonnHolmes and me about our (fastest growing) breakfast show – THANK YOU. We read all your messages and are working hard to give you the programme you want to wake up to @GBNEWS.”

As Eamonn followed up: “We’re very happy to accept defectors… it’s all the rage!”

Eamonn also retweeted a string of posts praising the show – mainly from fans who had switched over from another morning programme.

One read: “I thoroughly enjoy it, it’s a great change from the usual one! I switched over to [GB News] to have a little look, and there’s no going back now.”

Someone else echoed: “It’s nice to see a breakfast show with great content, no screaming, no annoying competitions and likeable presenters with personality!”

It comes as Eamonn was left confused as ITV allegedly let him go from This Morning without warning.

Eamonn hit out on Twitter

Eamonn, who had a regular presenting slot on the show alongside his wife Ruth Langsford, initially announced his departure in November 2021.

Speaking to The Times, he admitted: “I just have issues with why they can’t tell you your time is up. Just have a conversation, any conversation. I was given no reason why I was blocked.”

An ITV spokesperson said at the time: “We would like to wish Eamonn all of the very best in his new role.

“As a duo, Eamonn and Ruth have been part of the This Morning presenting team for the last 15 years and we thank Eamonn for all of his hard work and contribution to the show.”
