Coronation Street fans were left distracted from Monday night’s tense episode by one rather startling DNA connection, as they figured out that Tim’s mum Elaine has a surprising DNA connection.
Viewers have rumbled that Elaine is actually linked to cobbles legend Tracy Barlow in a shocking twist.
Elaine, played by Paula Wilcox, returned on Monday night as her son Tim Metcalfe underwent a triple heart bypass in hospital, after keeping the news of his health scare secret from his family for weeks.
A shocked Elaine couldn’t believe Tim had kept the news from her as she sat at his bedside before the surgery.
Paula first took on the role of Elaine in 2020, as she turned up on the cobbles to combat her abusive ex-husband Geoff and bonded with Yasmeen.
But it wasn’t her first role in the ITV soap, as Paula first appeared as a different character entirely – as Janice Langton, way back in 1969.
Janice appeared in five episodes of the soap, and was known for running away from her probation officer before stealing a car and being evicted from the cobbles.
And one fan couldn’t resist pointing out the connection on social media, as they tweeted: “@itvcorrie I can’t believe Tim’s mum Elaine used to be Ray Langton’s sister in a previous life. So that means she’s Tracy’s auntie!”
Someone else pointed out: “Bernie used to be in Corrie when she was a kid. She lived at No 11, where Eileen now lives. Obviously she was someone else then.
“Evelyn also ran the Rovers, again, as someone else.”
Evelyn actress Maureen Lipman first burst onto the cobbles as barmaid Lillian Spencer for six episodes in 2002, while Bernie star first appeared as Sue Clayton in 1985 – a cheeky teen whose sister fell pregnant with Terry Duckworth.
Elsewhere in Monday’s episode, fans were left fuming that Tim was permitted so many visitors amidst the pandemic – when they were barred from visiting ailing family members in hospital.
While recovering from his op, Tim was visited by mum Elaine, wife Sally, daughter Faye and pal Kevin.
One fuming fan tweeted: “So are Weatherfield hospitals not following Covid rules?! No masks and visitors allowed… not very realistic.”
Another questioned: “Isn’t there a pandemic in Manchester? I can’t even visit my mum in hospital #Corrie.”
“No restrictions on visitors for Tim. Surprised they didn’t ask Sally to help sew his chest up!” someone else ranted, as a fourth fan penned: “Tim in normal ward with visitors after triple bypass!”
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30pm on ITV.
