Pop superstar Taylor Swift has fired back at Blur frontman Damon Albarn after he claimed she doesn’t write her own songs.
The 32-year-old songstress dubbed his recent remarks “really f—ed up” after he dissed the Shake It Off hitmaker during a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times, claiming that co-writing songs “doesn’t count”.
Taylor blasted: “I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this.
“I write ALL of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. You don’t have to like my songs, but it’s really fu**ed up to try and discredit my writing. WOW.”
She followed up with: “P.S. I wrote this tweet all by myself, in case you were wondering.”
Albarn, 53, who also co-founded virtual band Gorillaz, claimed “She doesn’t write her own songs,” when asked about the star during his interview.
When pressed on the matter, he replied: “Co-writing doesn’t count” and that there’s “a big difference between a songwriter and a songwriter who co-writes”.
He said: “I’m not hating on anybody, I’m just saying there’s a big difference between a songwriter and a songwriter who co-writes. Doesn’t mean that the outcome can’t be really great.”
Taylor’s pal and producer Jack Antonoff also replied to Albarn, tweeting: “I’ve never met Damon Albarn and he’s never been to my studio but apparently he knows more than the rest of us about all those songs Taylor writes and brings in. Herb. If you were there … cool … go off. If not … maybe …. shut the fu** up?”
Albarn has since issued a public apology to Taylor.
He penned: ““I totally agree with you. i had a conversation about songwriting and sadly it was reduced to clickbait.
“I apologise unreservedly and unconditionally. The last thing I would want to do is discredit your songwriting. I hope you understand.”
This isn’t the first time Albarn has had beef with a female musician.
He recorded with Adele in 2015, and ended up describing the singer as “insecure.”
Albarn told The Sun at the time: “Adele asked me to work with her and I took the time out for her… Will she use any of the stuff? I don’t think so.
“The thing is, she’s very insecure. And she doesn’t need to be, she’s still so young”. Albarn also described her new music as “middle of the road”.

Adele responded to the comment that year in Rolling Stone, saying, “It ended up being one of those ‘don’t meet your idol’ moments. And the saddest thing was that I was such a big Blur fan growing up. But it was sad, and I regret hanging out with him.”
Speaking about the success of Gorillaz second album Demon Dayz, Albarn said: “It wasn’t quite Adele but I will never be Adele . . . or ever work with her!”
