Emmerdale's Claire King vows to keep 'ageing disgracefully' as she marks 60th birthday

Emmerdale actress Claire King celebrated her 60th birthday on January 10 and in a recent chat expressed her thoughts on ageing as she reflected on the last few decades of her life.

Claire is most notorious for being Kim Tate and has played the villainous character since she first graced the show in 1989.

In an exclusive chat with OK! Claire opened up about ageing and how she can’t wait to “embrace” her next chapter of life.

She said: “You’ve just got to roll with the punches, embrace it, learn to love yourself and just be grateful that you’re still here, because not everyone gets the privilege of turning this number.

Claire King says she is embracing turning 60 as “age is just a number”

“I do fully intend to grow old disgracefully! At the end of the day, age is just a number, so you have to accept it and think, I’ve got all this wisdom and knowledge.

“I still do my yoga and I’m still quite flexible, even with my joints, so I just take each day as it comes and see what’s thrown at me.”

Claire also said she has no regrets looking back on her life.

She first made an appearance on Emmerdale in 1989

She revealed: “Sometimes you think you should have made different choices, but I don’t regret anything. It’s brought me to who I am now and where I am now.”

After leaving the ITV soap, Claire returned in 2018 after a dramatic 38 years since she first stepped foot onto the Dales.

Talking about what’s to come in her 60s, the soap star admitted that she’s completed a lot of her life ambitions.

She said: “I’ve been lucky to have experienced everything and that’s what life as an actress is.

“Now I feel like I’m at the Thelma & Louise stage where I’m willing to just put my foot down on the accelerator and embrace whatever comes my way.”

As well as staring in Emmerdale, Claire also played tough-talking Karen Betts in the acclaimed drama series Bad Girls from 2000 until 2004 and has featured in programmes such as The Royal, Holby City and Doctors.

Claire admitted that her 60th celebration was very low-key. She marked the occasion with a meal at a restaurant due to her and her partner being vulnerable to Covid, but aims to celebrate more in summer.
