The Chase star Mark Labbett stunned viewers on Wednesday’s episode after he stormed off the set in a rage and punched the equipment following a huge defeat.
Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett appeared furious at the defeat, which saw four contestants beat him in the final chase with seconds the spare.
Mortified host Bradley Walsh was forced to apologise to shocked viewers as he aimed a punch into the set uttering “I give up” as he abruptly left his chair
The 56-year-old quizzer has since taken to social media to apologise for his behaviour, blaming his mental health for the bizarre episode.
He tweeted: “Apologies to those of you disappointed with my behaviour tonight. My mental health was shot before that game, it was storm off or break down in tears. A remorseless diet of quality opponents didn’t help.”
The incident happened after contestants Simon, Trudy, Gurbinder and Tom nabbed a victory winning them a stellar prize pot of £21k.
Fans took to the comments to support the star, with one writing: “You shouldn’t have to apologise for having mental health Mark. I myself have mental health, and it does get to you now and again, and you can’t help how you feel. You’re a great guy Mark. I enjoy watching you quizzing.”
Another reaffirmed the support for the clearly distressed star, commenting: “Hey. These things happen. What’s great is that you have totally owned that behaviour. I really hope your mental health is better now. Remember that you are not alone. Always here if you want to talk. We got ya Beastie Boy.”
While a third added: “Don’t feel that an apology is needed Mark Labbett you’re a good person and always enjoy the show no matter what the situation is on the day, chin up Mark and keep chasing.”
Fans watched player Gurbinder go up against The Beast for £4,000 after his cash builder round, with the second contestant Simon adding a further £6,000.
Third player Trudy raised £4,000 in her cash builder round after she went up against The Beast for £4,000 rather than £400.
Boxing enthusiast Tom raised an impressive £7,000 and he even managed to answer multiple questions before Bradley finished reading them out.
After a stellar performance from the impressive foursome, Mark slipped up when he answered Star Track instead of Star Trek which triggered an upset with the star and ultimately led to his departure from the set.
The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV
