BBC Breakfast's Katherine Downes 'stuns co-star to silence' with rude dating quip

BBC Breakfast host Katherine Downes left her co-star Chris Mason “stunned to silence” after she rudely told him “sort out your dating profile”.

The 39-year-old host followed up with: “That’s why you’re not getting any dates”, as they discussed bad grammar and acronyms.

Chris and Katherine had uncovered an article which revealed a significant number of people polled were put off by bad grammar, spelling and the use of acronyms such as OMG.

“This is a really good one, we’re really enjoying this this morning, ‘OMG theirs no way your the one for me'”, read out Katherine.

She added: “So they’ve polled 2,000 British dater’s for online dating sites and over half of them have said ‘if you can’t get your grammar right and use acronyms like LOL and OMG then it’s a huge turn off.”

Chris moaned: “Oh what’s wrong with that?”

His co-star continued: “I love this quote, from someone who is a stickler for spelling.

“She said ‘I’ve been single now for three years and I’ve lost count of the dates I’ve rejected due to the mauling of the English language, my friends all tell me I’m being too fussy but if someone can’t spell my name right….'”

Katherine pointed out a faux pas, explaining: “Should be correctly not right.”

“Don’t you start,” barked Chris.

Katherine continued to air the quote: “‘Or tell the difference between to or too or you and your, then there is no way I’m sharing a drink with them let alone my bed.'”

Chris grumbled: “I think both of you are being too much of a stickler.”

The pair were discussing grammar and acronyms being a turn off

He argued: “There’s nothing wrong with OMG and lol, my goodness.”

Interjecting, Katherine insisted: “Good grammar and spelling costs nothing.”

“Online dating is a minefield by all accounts,” exclaimed her co-presenter.

“Get on there and sort your profile out Chris – that’s why you’re not getting the dates,” Katherine commented:

After a moment of awkward silence between the pair, Chris continued: “We’ve been stunned to silence by that, we really have.”

BBC Breakfast returns tomorrow on BBC One from 6am.
