I’m Sorry, I’ll Read That Again star Jo Kendall has died at the age of 83, as John Cleese led tributes to the comedy actress.

Josephine May Kendall spent her final days in a retirement home in Denville Hall – a retreat created for actors and theatre stars.

As the sad news of Jo’s passing began to reach many, floods of tributes poured in on social meida.

With close friend and co-star John clease leading with kind and heartfelt words on Twitter.

The comedian said: “I woke to hear of dear Jo Kendall’s death.

“She was in the 1963 Cambridge Footlights Revue which took her, Tim Brooke Taylor, Bill Oddie, David Hatch, Humphrey Barclay and me into Show Business.

“Jo performed in over 100 ‘I’m sorry I’ll read that Again’ shows and the 1948 show.”

He added: “She was a very likeable, cheerful, friendly woman – a delight to work with.

“I got to know her well on the 1964 Tour of New Zealand, and subsequently, our appearances on and off Broadway.

“She was an integral part of the ISIRTA team and we did countless ‘John and Mary’ sketches.”

John signed off with: “I have many happy memories of her RIP Jo Ke.”

Adoring fans commented beneath John’s post, adding it had been a “sad day for comedy”.

Although Jo was most famous for her role alongside John on I’m Sorry I’ll Read That Again, she actually appeared in many other renowned shows.

In 1993, she played the role of Aunt Maud in the opposite of Kate Copstick in Marlene Marlowe Investigates BBC children’s series.

Apart from this, Jo also starred in the debut episode of The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy and made a number of appearances on Radio 4’s The Burkiss sketch series.

Jo’s cause of death remains unknown.
