Dan Walker made a shock admission on Monday’s BBC Breakfast, confessing to his co-host Sally Nugent that he’d once “knocked out” his own brother.
The two presenters were taking about a professional pillow fighting competition where contestants could bag themselves a £5,000 prize.
As the conversation was coming to an end, Dan began to snigger before opening up about his own memories of pillow fighting.
He said: “I don’t know whether I should tell you this but I once knocked my brother out in a pillow fight.”
Sally chirped back: “Oh dear, really properly?”
The Strictly Come Dancing star, went on to explain: “Well it was because we had bunkbeds in our bedroom and he thought the fight was over and I thought, there’s a chance for one last wallop here.”
Interjecting, his co-star replied: “Sorry I’m going to give you a mum face, I can’t help it.”
Dan added: “So I absolutely clocked him on the side of the noggin and he smashed his head on the side of the bunkbed.”
“And you’re still speaking now?” asked Sally.
“Oh yeah,” responded the newsreader.
“And he’s recovered?” added his partner on the red sofa.
“I’ve not spoken to him until about six years ago,” laughed Dan.
Being a parent, Sally was more intrigued to know if the presenter had found himself in trouble with his mum at the time.
She quizzed: “Tell me this, what did your mum do at that point?”
He said: “I can’t remember, I just remember the shock, as Sally chimed in: “You just blanked it all out because it was too awful?”
“Yeah, I’m sure she was very very happy with me,” joked Dan.
Sally told viewers: “Yes, don’t try that at home kids perhaps.”
BBC Breakfast returns tomorrow on BBC One from 6am.
