Naga Munchetty was unimpressed with Charlie’s attempt to guess what had been shown in her picture during a newspaper segment on Thursday’s show.
The BBC Breakfast newsreader, 46, had held up an image from a publication and asked Charlie to have a stab at what he thought he could see.
Stunned at his response, Naga informed her co-star that laughter had erupting in her ear after he’d suggested “flying fish” – which inevitably couldn’t have been further from the mark.
“Ok, what do you see here? Don’t read the words,” said Naga.
After studying the image for a moment, Charlie responded: “It looks like fish flying in some kind of formation.
“Looks like flying fish under water that’s what it looks like to me. How am I doing so far?”
Not even cracking a smile, Naga hit back at his foolish response: “So you’re hearing all of the laughter in our ears and in the studio floor yeah?”
Charlie became insistent that his answer had been valid, he said: “There are such thing as flying fish, I know there’s a lot of ridicule lurking around but there are such thing as flying fish.”
“Ok, let’s take a closer look. It’s not ridicule, it’s amusement Charlie,” probed Naga.
Pointing at the picture in the newspaper, she commented: “So here, these are leaves and that is a snake. Disguising itsself among the jungle leaves in Ecuador.”
Making matters worse, Charlie remarked: “Well coming here, it looks like a snake with a beak. With a… you know beak?”
“Has he got his tongue out?” jibed his partner on the red sofa.
Scratching her head, Naga tried not to chirp back initially but then realised she could no longer her tongue on the matter
She joked: “Like the other snakes that have beaks?”
Charlie exclaimed: “That’s why I thought it was a very usual picture, that’s why I thought it was a picture of a snake with a beak.”
Pointing out his ludicrous guess, she explained: “The flying fish with a snake with a beak for snakes?”
“You never know what’s going to come up in those pictures do you,” quipped Charlie.
