GMB's Susanna Reid fumes at Ben Shephard over his cheeky dig at Kate Garraway's age

Susanna Reid told off her co-star Ben Shephard for making cheeky digs at Kate Garraway’s age on Good Morning Britain.

Whilst the popular ITV breakfast show kicked off as normal on Thursday (February 3), it wasn’t long before tensions arose between the panel of Ben, Kate, Susanna and their showbiz expert Richard Arnold.

It all started when Richard asked the team what connection 54-year-old Kate had to the famous 1990 rap hit – World In Motion.

The New Order song saw the band perform with the England football team, and it flew to number one in the UK charts.

Kate Garraway was stunned by Ben’s cheeky age comments on Good Morning Britain

Ben, who also hosts ITV’s hit game show Tipping Point, was the first presenter to jump in to try and answer Richard’s question – seemingly to demonstrate his quizzing knowledge.

Cutting off Richard, Ben took a shot at Kate’s age when he said: “She was born in the same year that New Order was created, so somewhere around 1935…”

Kate looked stunned: “If only I was born when that rap came out… what do you mean, world order generally?”

Making another swipe at Kate’s age, Ben said: “New Order did the song, didn’t they? With the England team.”

Ben joked that Kate was born in the 1930s – but Susanna shut him down

Kate replied: “Yes!”, before Ben quipped: “So I said when New Order was created, so a few decades before that song.”

Susanna wasn’t having any of it, though, and stepped in to shut down Ben whilst poor Kate shook her head in disbelief at the table.

Stepping in to defend Kate, Susanna asked Ben: “What is with all the digs at Kate’s age? She’s younger than you, Ben.”

Digging himself a hole, 47-year-old Ben replied: “She’s not younger than anyone.”

Richard Arnold said he felt “awkward” during the segment

Seeing the funny side of Ben’s comments, Kate said: “Even I see the world in black and white!”

Ben wasn’t letting up during his roast of Kate just year, because he added: “Lord Attenborough did a series on Kate, decades ago.”

He burst out laughing, but it all got too much for Richard as he remarked: “Goodness me! We’ll bash on on that note. Getting awkward even for me.”
