Former pop star Sandra McKenzie has told how she was subjected to a horrific knife attack by a killer.
The ex-lead singer of band Goldbug – famed for the “whoa” roar on the 1990s Bodyform TV advert – has been left scarred for life after losing part of her breast.
She was stabbed multiple times by neighbour Stephen Allum, who she had no idea had been given an indefinite hospital order for killing his wife in 1997.
Sandra thought she was going to die. She said: “I saw the glint of metal as he whipped out a chopping knife from his jacket.
“He pressed the blade into my neck and hissed he was going to kill me. I begged him to stop but he was punching me in the face and telling me he hated me.
“He plunged the knife into my bust, then I felt his hands around my neck. As he squeezed I felt the life drain out. I thought, ‘this is it’.”
Sandra – who revealed in 2020 she was homeless after losing all her money on bad business decisions – met Allum in temporary housing in Oxford.
The pair had been dating when he dropped the bombshell about his past, causing Sandra to end things.
Allum pestered the singer, who once dated Prince and owned five homes, but when she told him to leave her alone he stabbed her multiple times.
Neighbours rang police, who stopped the attack and rushed Sandra to hospital, where she underwent blood transfusions.
Sandra added: “As well as other stab wounds he’d plunged the knife through my bust, slicing off my left nipple, leaving a gaping hole.
“I spent six months unable to walk and needing carers. I was in constant pain and suffered horrendous flashbacks.”
Allum, 60 was jailed for life last year after admitting attempted murder.
Sandra, still at the complex, said: “Living here is a constant reminder. I’m desperate to move.”
