Coleen Rooney admits real reason she stayed with Wayne after 'horrible situations'

Coleen Rooney has opened up about the reason she stood by her man when she encountered problems in her relationship with Wayne Rooney.

The popular WAG admitted that she and childhood sweetheart Wayne are “not the lovey-dovey type” as she described how she has learnt to follow her own instincts when it comes to her love life and family.

Talking in new Amazon Prime documentary Rooney, Coleen, 35, confessed that she tries to focus on her own thoughts and feelings rather than letting other people’s opinions cloud her judgement, which has helped her to hold their family unit together over the years.

And Coleen – who tied the knot with the former footballer in 2008 – confirmed that the only people she tends to listen to are her parents because of their “positive outlook”.

She said: “When you’re making them decisions, you’ve got to focus on what you want and not what else because you have so many people saying different things to you. ‘Why is she getting back with him? She should’ve got rid of him ages ago.’

“Obviously I listen to the people that matter to me, my mum and dad, they’ve always given me a positive outlook on things.”

Coleen then revealed that part of the reason her relationship with Wayne has lasted so long is that they know how to have fun together.

She continued: “There’s nothing that we can’t deal with, and that’s my way. We’re in a situation, let’s sit down, let’s see what we can do, and can you make it work? And we have.

“We’re not the lovey-dovey type anyway, we like to have a laugh together and we work well together, and we’ve got four kids.”

Coleen then confirmed that although their children are part of the reason they stick together, she and former England striker Wayne, 36, are still very much in love and choose to work through their problems.

She added: “I know people say, ‘Are they just staying together to keep the family unit together?’ That was part of it, but also we still love each other.

“Hopefully he’s learnt and he doesn’t get himself into any of them horrible situations again, but it’s happened and I’ve got to live with it, and if I couldn’t cope with living with it, I would’ve ended the relationship.”

Rooney is available on Prime Video from February 11
