Fans of the Masked Singer UK are convinced that Mushroom is Charlotte Church after a sneaky language clue that seems to have given the game away.
After singing an operatic masterpiece on the ITV show, she dropped a clue and said: “I stole the show from my Modryb,” a simple line that got viewers at home speculating more than ever.
Fans were quick to pick up on the clue, with one taking to Twitter to say: “Modryb is Welsh for auntie, so go figure.”
Another speculated: “Modryb is Aunt in Welsh. @charlottechurch appeared on the Big Big Talent Show aged 11, to introduce her aunt. She then spontaneously sang Pie Jesu and the rest is history.”
A third then penned: “Tissues in the VT – Tissues and Issues, Charlotte Church’s solo album. And Modryb is Auntie in Welsh.”
While a fourth said: “Modryb is Welsh for auntie; her auntie put her forward for the talent show…. it’s Charlotte Church.”
And a fifth penned: “‘I stole the show from my Modryb’ Modryb is Welsh for Aunt. Charlotte Church showed up to a talent contest, with her aunt. Claiming it was the reason she was first noticed. Definitely Charlotte!”
Charlotte shot to fame when she was just 11 years of age when she called into This Morning in 1997 to sing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s operatic classic Pie Jesu.
She then made her TV debut days later when she sung the same song on Jonathan Ross’ Big, Big Talent Show.
Introducing Charlotte was her aunty, Caroline Cooper, but the young star soon stole the spotlight with her soprano voice as she hit the high notes – which means the clue that Mushroom dropped on The Masked Singer could be true.
At the time, Jonathan Ross told her that she was “destined to be a star” – so has Charlotte come full circle with Ross potentially judging her on The Masked Singer?
Fans aren’t the only people speculating over Mushroom’s identity, vocal expert Cece Sammy Lightfoot reckons Charlotte is a solid guess.
Speaking to Daily Star Cece revealed: “I think it’s her, I think it’s Charlotte Chruch. Because she went from being a child classical singer, moving into a world of pop where everything from your body language to the texture of your voice has to change.”
