Emmerdale fans were left stunned tonight (February 15) as they watched Leyla Cavanagh get shot by serial killer Meena Jutla.
With Billy and Dawn’s wedding day ruined as Meena kidnapped the newlyweds in a limo and took them to the viaduct – intent on forcing Billy to choose between his own life and Dawn’s – it looked like things couldn’t get much worse.
But when wedding planner Leyla turned up, she ended up taking a bullet from the murderer.
Now Leyla’s life is on the line after Meena’s deadly game took a sinister turn – but actress Roxy Shahidi has vowed that if her character is to survive, she could be the one to bring Meena down.
Speaking to Daily Star and other press, Roxy said: “Leyla loves revenge, and I would love for Leyla to take revenge on Meena – I think it would be a brilliant showdown. I think she would like to for sure.”
But speaking of Leyla’s husband Liam risking his own freedom to go after Meena, Roxy suggested: “I think when Leyla is in her most rational state of mind, she wouldn’t want Liam to ever jeopardise his freedom – and she knows that isn’t something Leanna would ever want him to do.
“So I think she would still stand by that for his sake – but if Leyla, in this moment, had a chance to kill Meena herself, she would.”
But to reap her own revenge after the death of Liam’s daughter Leanna, Leyla will first have to survive the potentially fatal shooting, and Roxy admits: “Leyla is at risk.
“I think she only realises when she’s looking at the gun pointing at her. At first she thinks the limo has taken a wrong turn, and she’s used to all these last minute hitches [being a wedding planner] and it’s not a big thing until she’s facing the gun [that she realises].
“It’s a complete and utter surprise.
“She sees Meena, recognises Meena, and then she’s staring down the barrel of the gun and there’s a panic.
“And that’s it, she’s been hit. She thinks she’s dying, and she calls out to tell Jacob and Liam that she loves them.”
Speaking about filming the shooting, Roxy admitted: “I was quite excited – I thought it would be a fun day filming.
“It was blinking cold – it’s cold getting shot! But it has been nice to film somewhere different. It’s like a little school trip for us when we get out and go somewhere different.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7pm on ITV
