Two new Hollyoaks characters are drawing the interest of audiences as they are introduced to the iconic British soap.
Garcia Brown and Jonas Khan play new detective Zoe and Zain Rizwaan respectively and they will be looking to make their mark in the fictional Chester suburb.
A high turnover of characters has kept fans interested in the long-running soap since 1995, when it was conceived by Brookside writer Phil Redmond, and any new introduction has the potential to upset the dynamic already in place.
From characters killed off to shocking poisonings, Hollyoaks has always had the potential to stun its audiences.
With some spoilers ahead, it seems that the two may be set to cause something of a stir as their character storylines develop.
So who are the Hollyoaks newcomers?
Who is Jonas Khan?
Jonas Khan is an actor who has featured on Our Girl, playing Captain Azizi, and in the award-winning short drama Little French Fish.
He will join Hollyoaks as local Imam Zain Rizwaan and will be the love interest of Misbah Malik, played by Harvey Virdi.
Jonas had already joined the show on February 18 when the episode aired on E4. The Channel 4 episode, which always airs one weekday later, will air tonight.
He said: “I’m very excited to be joining a progressive TV show such as Hollyoaks. A programme that always looks to push boundaries. Zain will look to bring some spirituality and guidance to the Maalik family and rest of the village.”
Who is Garcia Brown?
Garcia Brown is an actress known for parts in The Weekend and as Keisha in Shameless. She will join the cast as Zoe, a detective and the granddaughter of Pearl Anderson, played by Dawn Hope.
Zoe, whose first episode on Channel 4 will also be tonight, has been described as a wild one, happy to clock off from police duties and march herself off to a party or two and make friends with Theresa and Cleo McQueen and Verity Hutchinson.
She arrives on the Hollyoaks policing scene after some trouble at the station with Saul Reeves being demoted for his obsession with catching the killer of Lisa Loveday.
Upon joining the show, Garcia said: “There’s more than meets the eye to my character Zoe – she has a lot of exciting moments on screen!
“I’ve had the pleasure of joining the Deveraux family and working with such warm and talented individuals like Kelle Bryan, Richard Blackwood, Jorgie Porter, Jennifer Metcalfe, Eva O’Hara and more! I’m so eager for everyone to see what I’ve been up to.”
