Screaming Trees star Mark Lanegan has died at his home in Ireland at the age of 57.
The talented singer – who also formed part of The Guitar Twins and had been a member of Queens Of The Stone Age – sadly passed away, and his death was confirmed on his official twitter account.
Lanegan had died at his home in Killarney, Ireland and leaves behind his wife Shelley.
The emotional post read: “Our beloved friend Mark Lanegan passed away this morning at his home in Killarney, Ireland.
“A beloved singer, songwriter, author and musician he was 57 and is survived by his wife Shelley.
“No other information is available at this time. We ask please respect the family privacy.”
With the tragic news online spreading fast, masses took to their keyboards to pay their final respects to an iconic musician.
Singer and songwriter Tim Burgess wrote: “Oh no. Terrible news that Mark Lanegan has left us. Safe travels man – you’ll be missed.”
Hollywood actor and Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood penned: “Aww man, Mark Lanegan.”
Friend and singer Anton Newcombe said: “I am in absolute shock, a very beautiful soul has left this world. I love you brother… my deepest condolences to his family and friends.”
Other fans echoed similar comments, adding: “One of the best voices in rock,” and “this news has sent shivers,” along with “we’ve lost a true legend today”.
Lanegan was one of the leading pioneers on the grunge scene, having been the frontman of the Screaming Trees from 19885.
After the release of several successful albums, including the rock hit Nearly Lost You and All I Know the band opted to part ways in 2000.
While the songwriters cause of death is not yet known, Lanegan had delivered a recent interview about his horrific battle with Covid-19 which left him “completely deaf” and “slipping in and out of coma”.
The star released a book about the frightful ordeal titled Devil In A Coma which discussed his “terrifying account” of the illness.
