It read: “After many fine and eventful years, we have decided to divorce.

“We remain close and good friends and will continue to celebrate our grandchildren’s birthdays and other family celebrations together.”

Abba reunited last year and released their first album in four decades, Voyage, which flew to the top of the charts in the UK.

Björn started dating the journalist just six months after his split with Agnetha Fältskog, who he wed back in 1971 before the band made their first big break.

It is understood that when their marriage ended after nine years of marriage, Agnetha was said to have needed counselling to get over the breakup.

The cracks in their relationship started to show after the group shot to stardom as she struggled to adapt to living life on the road away from her two young children Peter and Linda, while the band toured all over the globe.

But the group managed to find a silver lining following the public split, as their break up inspired some of their most soul-searching lyrics as they continued to record music.

all four members of the group, including former married couple Anna-Frid Lyngstad, 76, and Benny Andersson, 75, are thought to reunite in person for the launch of their digital residency Abba Voyage in London this Spring.

The band are widely considered one of the best-selling sets of all time after they sold more than 350million records worldwide.

But all good things must come to an end as they announced their split in 1982 after eight successful years in the music industry.

Last September, the group decided to reunite to write and record a brand new album as Björn explained at the time.

He told their loyal legion of fans: “When the ladies went into the studio and stood by their mics and started singing, then, oh, it’s that sound – the quality of the two ladies when they sing.

“They are very much involved and they think this is great. They love it. Technically it is very advanced and complicated.”
