Piers Morgan has called on the “world to unite” to stop Vladimir Putin after the Russian leader ordered the invasion of Ukraine.
The former Good Morning Britain host branded Putin a “ruthless dictator” and “shameful bully-boy thug” in a tweet after he declared the assault on Russia’s neighbour Ukraine overnight.
Piers also warned Putin will invade more countries if leaders don’t act.
The loudmouth star, 56, wrote: “Putin’s doing this because he got away with it last time in Crimea.
“And if he gets away with it again in Ukraine, he’ll keep invading other countries until he restores the Soviet Union.
“The world must unite to stop this ruthless dictator – before it’s too late.”
When the initial news of Putin’s invasion was announced, Piers wrote: “Putin’s invaded Ukraine.
“This is an act of war by a bully-boy thug who doesn’t think the rest of the world has the guts or will to stop him. Shameful.”
Russia has launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine with explosions heard across major cities and numerous casualties reported.
Despite the condemnation of the West, Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a chilling warning that allies of Ukraine who try to interfere with his attack will “face consequences greater than any you have faced in history”.
Explosions were seen in cities across Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv, after Putin declared a ‘special military operation’ was underway in the region.
Russian forces have fired missiles at several Ukrainian cities and landed troops along the country’s south coast.
The Mirror reports that Russian special force and airborne troop are also on the ground at the city’s Boryspil Airport, amid fierce fighting.
Meanwhile, according to unofficial Russian sources, cruise and ballistic missiles are destroying military infrastructure and strategically important facilities.
As war broke out shortly after 4.35am, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy quickly announced Martial Law across all territories.
Shocking footage has emerged from the country in the aftermath showing cars of people fleeing Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, as others sheltered in basements to the sound of distant explosions.
