Charley Webb's marriage to Emmerdale co-star – surprise wedding, spats and family

Emmerdale stars Charley Webb and her former co-star husband Matthew Wolfenden have been the centre of media attention since they first tied the knot in February 2018.

The loved up couple, who have been together for an incredible 15 years, have often shared insight into their blossoming relationship, family life and the highs and lows of their union with fans.

Earlier this month, Charley, who is known to fans for previously playing the role of Debbie Dingle in the long-running ITV soap, shared a heartwarming tribute to her husband Matthew, who plays David Metcalfe.

Sharing a picture of herself with Matthew online, the star penned: “Happy four years married.

“This is what our anniversary looks like. 15 years together, three children later. I’m in my pyjamas ready to read my book in bed and @matthewwolfenden55 is watching a cooking programme.

“Happy Anniversary pal, you wouldn’t have it any other way.”

So as Charley celebrates her 34th birthday today (February 26), Daily Star has taken a look inside their married life.

Charley and Matthew tied the knot in a secret castle ceremony in 2018.

Arriving at Ripley Castle in Harrogate, the couple’s 100 attendees had no idea they were invited to their wedding as Charley told them that they were there to celebrate her 30th birthday.

Sharing insight into her big day with OK! magazine, Charley said: “That moment when we announced what we were doing and seeing everybody’s reaction is the best moment of my life.

“This way we got to do it totally the way we wanted – it wasn’t traditional, we didn’t have a sit-down meal and there weren’t loads of speeches.

“Someone once told me their friend had a surprise wedding and it stuck in my mind.”

Matthew also admitted that their guests screamed in surprise for roughly 10 minutes.

Children

Charley and Matthew share three children together, Buster, 11, Bowie, five, and two-year-old Ace.

The doting mum, who often shares glimpses of her family life online with fans, has confessed that she is open to having more kids with her husband.

Speaking to OK! last year, the star said: “One minute, I think I would love another and then five minutes later I think definitely no more children.

“My friends have said to me, ‘You know when you’re done.’ And I don’t feel like I’m done with having children.

“When I was carrying Ace, I knew I would want to do it again.”

Charley, who is an avid TikTok user, often shares humorous videos with her fans online which include her children dancing and acting alongside her.

Public spats

Just like many other couples, last year Charley and Matthew admitted to having tiffs during lockdown.

Blonde bombshell Charley also confessed that she and Matthew are not the most “romantic” couple.

She explained: “We’ve been together 15 years and we’re a team and a partnership. If Matthew bought me something, I’d be like, ‘What have you done?’ We’re not the most romantic couple.”

In December, the soap star couple hit headlines when they to have a bit of a spat while in a car.

The awkward conversation reportedly began when Charley, who was in the passenger seat of their car, took to her Instagram story to record her husband while driving.

Matthew asked: “Are you taking a picture or doing a video?”

Captioning the clip “borelord”, the actress replied: “It’s a video. How boring my life is?”

Charley giggled but Matthew clearly appeared unamused by her statement.

But things became even more uncomfortable for the pair when they seemed to have a disagreement about directions while on camera.

Matthew complained: “Why are you always videoing me?! Always! You’re obsessed!”

Charley then screeched: “Because you’ve taken us the wrong way!”
